For how many years can you carry over a net stock/options loss to offset any future gains in future years?
For example if I lost $10,000 in stocks/options trading in 2006, for how long can I use that loss to deduct it from future tax years. Is there a limitations in the number of years to deduct that loss? If I finally make a capital gains (stock/options) of $10,000 in 2015, can I then deduct that loss from 2006.

Do I have to 1) file a U.S. tax return and 2) pay U.S. taxes for gains from the following activities?
a) shorting stocks listed in U.S. stock exchanges (borrowing the stocks to be sold, and later repurchasing identical stocks for return to the lender)
b) trading stock option, such as buying calls and puts
I am a nonresident alien (Canadian) and filed a W-8BEN. I greatly appreciate your answers. If possible, I would also like to know which documents could point me to the answers.

Is this stock and option trade considered a wash loss?
I bought a stock and call and put on it. I made a profit on the stock and took a loss on a call and put option. If I buy the stock and different put and call option strike prices within 30 days, is it considered a wash for my options losses for tax purposes?

Option Contracts and Taxes?
How do I account for Option Contract trades for Tax purposes?
I had a number of options trades (calls and puts) last year resulting in a small loss. My broker sent me a “2006 Supplemental Tax Info – Non-Reportable” form so none of this activity shows up on a 1099-B. TurboTax has a form 6781 that is called “Section1256 Contracts and Straddles” but there are no examples that I can find on how to fill it out.
Is form 6781 the correct form or should I use schedule D?
Are there any examples available?
Thanks in advance.

How do I report option gains or loses?
I traded options in 2006. I.e., I bought and sold calls and puts without owning the underlying stock. My net for the year was a loss of about $1200. Can I report this loss on my 2006 tax return? If so, where?? Thanks.
